Contraindications Requiring a Doctors Note on File

Cancer Active Treatment or Recent History

Many of our most beloved regular guests use our Infrared sauna between chemotherapy and radiation treatments, ad we are deeply honored to support them. Infrared sauna therapy may help alleviate side effects including chronic fatigue and pain and can support the immune system during treatment. However, this is a deeply personal medical decision that must involve your oncologist.

Sauna is generally safe for cancer patients only with explicit oncologist approval. Sessions should be avoided within 48 hours of a chemotherapy infusion.

A doctors note from your oncologist is required before booking. We are honored to be part of your healing journey.

High or Low Blood Pressure - Uncontrolled

Infrared saunas use increases core temperature, heart rate, and blood flow - changes that can meaningfully affect blood pressure. For those with well - manages blood pressure this often is deeply beneficial. For those with uncontrolled hypertension or hypotension it requires medical guidance.

A doctor's note is required. Please share with your doctor that our medical grade Sunlightened sauna operates at 120 - 150 degrees as a far infrared sauna - not a traditional steam sauna.

Cardiovascular Conditions

Heart disease, congestive heart failure, impaired coronary circulation or recent cardiac events all require physician clearance before sauna use. Heat stress significantly increases cardiac output and blood flow as the body works to regulate internal temperature.

A doctor's note is required.
Picture
Diabetes

Individuals with diabetes particularly those with neuropathy - may have impaired sweating and temperature regulation. Insulin- dependent diabetes should also be aware that heat can affect insulin absorption and blood sugar levels.

A doctor's note is required.

Multiple Sclerosis

Traditional high-heat saunas, steam rooms, and hot baths are generally not appropriate for those living with MS due to temperature sensitivity that can impair motor function and cognition. Far infrared sauna heat operates at a lower temperature and there is emerging research suggesting it may be tolerated at a very low setting by some MS patients - but this is deeply individual and must be guided by your neurologist.

A neurologist note is required before booking. We will set the temperature conservatively, keep your session short, and ask that you bring a trusted companion. Your safety comes first - always.

Parkinson's Disease

There is promising emerging research suggesting that far infrared sauna therapy may be beneficial for those with Parkinson's - supporting circulation, reducing inflammation, and engaging protective heat shock proteins. However, your safety inside the sauna is our primary concern. Due to balance and motor control challenges associated with Parkinson's, we require both a medical clearance and a trusted companion present for every session.

A neurologist note is required before booking AND a trusted companion must be present for every session. We will never leave you navigating this alone.

Please Read Before Booking

Medications - consult w/ doctor

Certain medications significantly affect how your body responds to heat and must be discussed with your doctor before booking. These include diuretics. barbiturates, beta - blockers, anticholinergics, such as amitriptyline, and some over the counter antihistamines - all of which can impair the body's natural heat regulation mechanisms.

If you take any prescription medication, please consult your doctor before booking - even if your condition is not listed here.

Post - Surgery

The infrared sauna can be a wonderful part of post-surgical recovery - supporting circulation, reducing inflammation, and accelerating healing. Timing is everything, however.

For minor procedures - once stitches are out and your doctor has cleared you for normal activity, you are generally good to go. For major surgery, cardiac procedures, or anything involving significant recovery - Please consult your doctor first. When in doubt a quick call to your surgeon takes two minutes and gives everyone peace of mind.

No formal doctors note is required for minor procedures once fully healed. Doctor clearance recommended for major surgery or procedures with ongoing recovery.

Recent Joint Injury

Wait at least 48 hours after an acute joint injury or until swelling and heat in the joint has full subsided before booking. Chronically hot or swollen joints may not respond well to heat therapy.

Breast Implant's - Please Read Carefully - (May require a doctor's note and or additional waiver to be signed)

Unlike traditional sauna that heat the outside air around you from the outside in, our far infrared sauna heats you from the inside out - meaning the heat penetrates directly in soft tissue rather than warming the skin surface. This is important distinction for anyone with breast implants.

While implants will not melt- silicone does not begin to break down until temperature far beyond anything our sun reaches - the deeper tissue penetration of far infrared heat raises considerations that are not fully resolved by current research. Potential concerns with regular use including gradual weaking if the implant shell over time, shifting of the implants as surrounding tissue softens, and increases sensitivity in the skin over the implant.

Older implants carry a higher risk, and we ask that you consult your plastic surgeon before booking if you have implants - saline or silicone - particularly if they are older, recently placed, or if you plan to use the sauna regularly.

If during your session you feel any unusual warmth, pressure, tingling, or discomfort near your implants - please exit the sauna immediately and consult your surgeon before your next visit.

Breastfeeding

No need to pump and discard. Simply breastfeed before arriving, stay well hydrated throughout, and wait 30 to 60 minutes after your session before nursing again. Many nursing mothers worry about toxins released during their sauna session making their way into their breast milk. The reassuring truth is that current research shows no evidence of this happening. Your body is remarkably intelligent - sweat glands and milk ducts are completely separate systems. The toxins your body releases through sweat during your session do not enter your breast milk. The one thing that CAN affect your milk supply is dehydration - so staying well hydrated before, during, and after your session is the most important thing you can do for both yourself and your baby.

Metal Pins, Rods & Artificial Joints

Generally safe as metal reflects infrared waves and is not heated by the system. Please exit immediately and consult your physician if you experience any discomfort neat an implant during your session.

COPD, Asthma & Respiratory Conditions

Far infrared heat is gentler on the respiratory system than traditional steam saunas as it does not heat the air, Guests with mild conditions often find it comfortable. Those with serious respiratory conditions should consult their doctor before booking.
Picture
Insensitivity to Heat

If you have difficulty sensing heat or pain, please do not use the sauna without a physician's clearance. Your body's signals are your most important safety guide during your Fire Experience.

Elderly Guests

Welcome and encouraged! We simply ask that you start with a lower temperature and limit your first session to 15 minutes while your body acclimates. Let us know when booing and we will take extra good care of you.
